I have recently watched the podcast where in a 2nd year Engineering student studying in one of the prestigious institutes of India recently became a social influencer and earned a lucrative money out of social media platforms. Eventually, he decided to drop his degree course and decided to continue with the same. Having said that, in recent years, the rise of social media influencers has transformed the digital landscape. What began as a hobby for many has evolved into a lucrative career for some.
As the data suggests, the influencer marketing has been valued as $16.5 billion around 2022 and it is projected to reach to $85 billion around 2028 i. These individuals have built careers by leveraging their online presence to influence the opinions, behaviours, and purchasing decisions of their followers. With millions of people following influencers across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, it’s no wonder that brands are investing heavily in influencer marketing. However, this phenomenon raises important questions: Is being a social influencer just a fleeting fad, a lasting trend, or a legitimate career path? This blog explores the advantages, disadvantages, and future perspectives of a career as a social media influencer.
Advantages:
- Creative Freedom: Social influencers often enjoy a high degree of creative freedom, allowing them to express themselves in unique ways. Additionally, they have always been the victim of FOMO i.e. fears of losing out for which can be very stressful and disheartening many times.
