Could Not Make it to JEE Advanced? What’s Next?

I remember the time since the pressure started creeping in to choose the streams during grade XI, the child choosing or at least keen to choose the nonmedical stream always dreamt of making it into IITs. The Nonmedical stream broadly includes options like Physics, Chemistry and Maths followed by other subjects offered by any school.

You would be amazed to know that around 10-12 lacs students appeared in the last JEE exam, and the number increases every year by adding a few more chunks of students with the dream of making it into a top-notch engineering college. Students, enrol into the prep institute to achieve their dreams. But, have we ever thought about plan b, when the dream comes crashing down of not making it to top-notch engineering colleges?

Not clearing the JEE exam does not mean the end of the road and here are a few alternative paths to consider, if appearing for JEE is a daunting task for you:

National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a national-level entrance exam, duly conducted by the Council of Architecture, India. It’s a 5-year degree program, B.Arch. program dispensable at recognised institutes across India. This exam assesses the candidate’s aptitude skills for architectural design, drawing skills, critical thinking ability, mathematical reasoning, and general awareness. This exam is conducted twice a year.

Pure Sciences Courses such as BSC Hons at prestigious universities like Delhi University and other central universities across India also attract various tech companies for placements. Degrees like Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics can open up student career opportunities.

Online Certification and Technical Courses: This is an excellent way to enhance your skills and stay updated with the current job market trends. Courses like Python, Java, and Scratch are widely used for website development, data analysis, machine learning and automation. You can enrol and use extensive platforms like Coursera, Udemy, Simplilearn etc. These websites provide online certifications if you enrol for this course.

Entrepreneurship and Startups: Entrepreneurship and Startups culture have witnessed a significant rise in their formation. It involves creating and managing a business venture. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, explore startup ideas or create your venture.

Private Colleges or Universities: If you are still determined to pursue engineering, this is it. There are few private colleges and universities that conduct their aptitude tests for the selection of a particular course. Aptitude exams like BIT SAT, VIT and MET (for Manipal) are like a blessing in disguise in situations where you are unable to leave your impressions in the JEE exam.

Well, it is often said and believed that sometimes it is the last key that opens the lock. Your expedition to IITs may hit a roadblock, but that’s not the end of the road. Sometimes, we can plan a detour which can lead to alternative career paths which are full of opportunities and possibilities. So, take a deep breath to dust off the disappointment and re-energise yourself, as novel opportunities are just waiting for you to be welcomed with open arms. The journey ahead is all yours with endless possibilities.
